Dinner: Bite

Wish we could have spent more time at: the drive from Peniche took longer than anticipated so we didn't get to go to Aveiro. We only had about 2 hours each in Obidos and Costa Nova which definitely wasn't enough time. In retrospect, we should have added another day for this drive.

Day 4 Itinerary

B.

Berlenga Grande Island

Since we had decided not to go down to the rocky beaches of the Algarve, we take a boat out to the Berlengas Islands. We added a glass bottomed boat trip that explored some of the many caves around the island. Here's a tip: the boat trip can drop you off at Forte de São João Baptista so you can then just walk up the (many) steps and hike back past the lighthouse back to the dock.

D.

Costa Nova

We were running late so we had to choose between going to Aveiro or Costa Nova. We chose to walk on the boardwalk along the beach and then see the colorful palheiros before snacking on Bolacha (crispy thin waffle filled with a spread) and a Tripa (soft thin waffle/crepe with a filling). At a rest stop on the way north, we found "Filipinos" which have some controversy to their name.

E. Porto

We hav to return the rental car at the airport and then take a taxi into Porto. Our apartment is right on the Cais de Ribeira and has a balcony looking up and down the Duoro River.  This is probably the nicest place I've ever stayed.
